Dog Found Abandoned in Canal with Bound Legs
A heartless act of animal cruelty in Yuma, Arizona has sent a wave of shock and outrage to the community following the incident in which a dog was found abandoned in a muddy canal with her legs bound together.
A concerned citizen discovered the dog and and promptly alerted the Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) who swiftly responded, rescuing the distressed dog now affectionately named Cowgirl.
Upon arrival at the HSOY, the veterinary team worked diligently to free her from her bindings and provide her with much-needed food and care. Despite the ordeal, the shelter noted the dog has shown “a very sweet nature and has shown incredible resilience.”
Earlier this month, the shelter took to social media to raise awareness and seek information about the individual responsible for the cruelty.
“Good afternoon Yuma, on October 10th, a dog named “Cowgirl” by HSOY staff, was rescued from an empty canal covered in mud with her legs bound together making her vulnerable and unable to move,” the shelter shared on Facebook.
“Thanks to concerned citizens who contacted Animal Control, Cowgirl was immediately brought to the Humane Society of Yuma, where the team cut her free and provided food for her empty belly. She is now safe and in good hands with the caretakers and medical staff at HSOY.”
The HSOY is offering a substantial reward of $1,200 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this heinous act of cruelty. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 928-783-4427.
The community is encouraged to support Cowgirl and other animals in need by donating to the Humane Society of Yuma.
Following the incident, community members expressed outrage and concern, demanding justice for the abused dog. Many took to the comments section to share their anger and frustration, hoping for the swift arrest of the culprit.
“Reading about her makes my heart cry I hope they find who ever did this. She looks so sweet. Thank goodness she is in good care getting all the medical and love she deserves. please lord find the person or persons who did this to her Aman!!” one user shared.
“What in the world is wrong with people. I am sharing in hopes someone knows this dog and the responsible people will be brought to justice !!! Absolutely horrible and I am appalled someone could do such a thing,” another added.
Despite ongoing efforts by animal welfare advocates to educate the public about the importance of animal welfare, cases of animal cruelty continue to plague communities worldwide.
A recent, particularly disturbing incident involved a dog named Trooper who was left tied to a pole during Hurricane Milton. Fortunately, Florida patrol officers rescued Trooper, and the dog is now safe at the Leon County Humane Society in Tallahassee. The perpetrator in this case has been apprehended.
However, not all cases of animal cruelty have such positive outcomes. Many unfortunate animals suffer and even die as a result of human neglect and abuse. A recent case in Botetourt County saw a dog found in a ditch in a state of critical health, who, despite valiant efforts, died.
Herkimer County Humane Society also recently reported another case of a dog who died after being abandoned at their entrance door late on a “dark and rainy” night. The incident which happened just a day after seven cats were abandoned in the shelter’s parking lot sparked widespread awareness of outrage.
Animal shelters across the globe however, continue to advocate for increased awareness of animal abuse and to urge the public to report any suspected cases of cruelty.
