Lamb Raised With Rottweiler Turns Out ‘Weirder’ Than Imagined

While Rottweilers are often stereotyped as aggressive dogs, a heartwarming video showcasing an unlikely friendship between a Rottweiler and a sheep has challenged this misconception highlighting their capacity to bond with other animals when raised and trained properly.

In a series of  Tiktok videos shared under the username @rachelizabethx, a Rottweiler who was initially intended to to protect a lamb formed a bond that defies expectations.

The video depict the Rottweiler and the sheep engaging in playful antics, from having a walk together to chasing each other around the farm. The sheep, in particular, has taken on the mannerisms of its canine companion, exhibiting remarkable agility and confidence.

“You raised a lamb with a Rottweiler and she turned out weirder than you ever could have imagined,” reads the overlay texts on the video, perfectly encapsulating the surprise and amusement of viewers.

Viewers have been captivated by the duo. Comments range from admiration for the sheep’s fearlessness to concerns about the Rottweiler’s reputation. One viewer even joked, “I’m more terrified of the sheep than the dog.”

The owner agreed writing, “Definitely, she is not to be messed with! Nothing more dangerous than a sheep that thinks she’s a Rottweiler.”

Inspired by this heartwarming friendship, one user even suggested getting a Rottweiler for their own sheep. The owner, however, cautioned against such a decision without careful consideration.

“Definitely need a good breeder that prioritizes health, genetics & socialization from birth though, it’s very important with rottweilers. Get the foundations right and you’ll have the best companion,” the owner advised.

The owner’s other videos offer a heartwarming chronicle of this extraordinary friendship’s development. From the moment the lamb was introduced to the gentle Rottweiler, their bond began to blossom. As the lamb grew, it became increasingly playful, chasing the dog around.

The owner has also shared insights into the Rottweiler’s gentle nature, revealing its affinity for various animals. “He is so at home around animals (not even other dogs) but cows and donkeys, and now the lamb,” the owner shared in a comment.

Dr. Stanley Coren, a renowned psychologist and author, suggests that the strong bond between dogs and other animals, as seen in the heartwarming video, can be attributed to centuries of human breeding.

In his book,  “Why Does My Dog Act That Way?”, he suggests that humans have selectively bred dogs over centuries to form strong bonds and this innate tendency to bond extends to other species as well.

American kennel Club have also offered insights into the factors that contribute to such strong interspecies bonds, explaining that raising two animals together plays a crucial role in shaping a dog’s behavior. “One thing that is clear is that dogs can and will bond with other animals if they are raised with them. Raise a puppy with a goat and he’ll bond with goats, for example,” the organization shared.

“There’s also a very obvious reason a dog may bond with another type of animal: the two are raised together. Animals form their strongest bonds when they’re very young, so if a dog is raised with a baby of another species, it makes sense that they’ll bond to each other. The connection could be even stronger than later learning or other instinctual behavior,” they added.

In the case of the Rottweiler and the sheep, their early exposure to each other has fostered a deep bond based on trust and mutual respect. The sheep, despite its smaller size, has learned to assert itself and hold its own against the larger dog.
