Dog Mistaken to be 12 Months Pregnant Undergoes Life-Saving Surgery
An abandoned dog, initially mistaken to be 12 months pregnant has been saved by veterinary experts who carried out life-saving surgery to remove a massive amount of fluid from her body.
The dog’s story shared on TikTok Under the username ghaang24 has gone viral and captured the hearts of many online. The video tells the heartbreaking story of the dog now named Boksu. In the video, the dog is seen with a massively swollen belly, struggling to move.
The dog’s ordeal began when she was abandoned by her male owner in the mountains after failing to give birth. Her condition was dire; she was severely overweight, with a massive belly that hindered her movement.
Fortunately, a compassionate woman discovered her and took her in. Despite her condition, the dog displayed remarkable affection towards her rescuer, remaining loyal and attentive even in her weakened state.

Boksu’s health however rapidly declined as her belly grew to an alarming size, making it difficult for her to move or even lie down. “Things got worse the dog’s weight reached 76 pounds and without treatment, she would die.” the overlaid text reads.
The woman took Boksu to the hospital where the initial concerns about pregnancy were quickly dismissed after veterinarians discovered a far more serious issue of heartworms, a condition caused by a parasitic infection that in some cases causes swollen abdomen in dogs.
A surgical procedure was required to remove the fluid, which amounted to a total of 18 kilograms, leaving the veterinarians astonished by the sheer volume of fluid extracted.
While Boksu’s heartworm infection was also a concern, the doctors determined that the more pressing issue was a pre-existing heart condition.
“The doctor said that when fluid fills up due to heartworms, it doesn’t fill up this excessively,” the overlaid text reads. “The dog does have heart worms but what’s more serious is that the dog had already a heart disease. it is suspected that the dog was born with heart disease.” With proper treatment, however, Boksu is expected to make a full recovery.
