Dog Sets Home on Fire While Searching for Food
A mischievous French bulldog named Harvey accidentally caused a house fire in Brook Park, Ohio, after turning on a stove burner while trying to reach food.
Homeowner Chris DiLuzio was at work when he received a call from the fire department informing him of the blaze.
The house security camera captured the incident. The footage shows when Harvey, standing on his hind legs on a chair, inadvertently activated the stove burner.
Another white dog can be seen in the video, seemingly unperturbed by the developing situation. As the fire spread, Harvey quickly ran down from the chair, seemingly aware of the danger. As the fire intensified, a fire alarm began to beep.
Speaking to WOIO late last month when the incident happened, the house owner Chris DiLuzio said the dog is “just being fat and hungry.” “If we didn’t have it on camera, it’s kinda a far-fetched tale; you wouldn’t really believe it.”
“It was definitely panic and fear at the same time cause they said they only located one dog; my first thought process was my son, my niece, and my mother-in-law were here,” said DiLuzio.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, DiLuzio’s family, including his wife, six children, and several pets, were unharmed. However, the damage to their home is extensive, forcing them to relocate for an extended period.
“We lost a lot of irreplaceable stuff that doesn’t have value,” DiLuzio lamented.
The incident has sparked a wave of community support for the DiLuzio family. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the DiLuzio family recover from the fire and rebuild their home. The page describes the couple as “two hard-working parents who volunteer their non-working time for the kids in the community.
“They are the most generous, kind, giving family I know. They would help ANYONE if they could. They have 6 kids they raise, and take care of, all whom just went back to school today and lost everything they just purchased for them,” the GoFundMePage reads.
“Jenn and Chris are two hard-working parents who volunteer their non-working time for the kids in the community. I’m hoping we can help them out to get back on their feet and clean up the mess! Anything is helpful, and if you cannot donate, just a little prayer will go a long way! Thank you, everyone!”
Supervising animals, especially those known for their playful or mischievous tendencies, is crucial. This includes keeping them away from potentially hazardous areas such as kitchens, where stoves, ovens, and other appliances can pose a fire risk. Additionally, it is essential to ensure that pets have access to appropriate toys and activities to keep them entertained and engaged.
Moreover, pet owners should be aware of their animals’ specific behaviors and tendencies. If a pet exhibits signs of curiosity or a propensity to explore unusual places, it is important to take extra precautions to prevent accidents. This may involve securing cabinets, drawers, and other areas that could be tempting to a curious pet.
Ultimately, responsible pet ownership involves providing a safe environment, training pets appropriately, and supervising them closely. By taking proactive steps to ensure pet safety, owners can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and create a safer environment for both pets and humans. The incident involving Harvey serves as a stark reminder of the importance of pet supervision and the potential consequences of neglecting these precautions.
