Three Chained Dogs Rescued from Neglected Shelter
The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) has successfully rescued three abandoned dogs after receiving a call from a police officer who found the dogs in a dire situation.
In an October 25th Facebook post, PSPCA shared the heartbreaking story of the three dogs named Bam, Beau, and Brenda, detailing their discovery, health condition and rescue.
According to the post, the rescue team sprang into action after receiving a call from a Chester city police officer who had been alerted by a property owner about three dogs tied up near their business.
Upon arrival, the PSPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement team found the dogs in a heartbreaking state. They were chained to makeshift shelters in a neglected, unkempt environment, visibly suffering from malnutrition and other health issues.
“Abandoned. Forgotten. Fighting for their lives. That is how we found Bam, Beau, and Brenda,” the post reads.
Accompanying the post were heartbreaking photos of Bam, Beau, and Brenda, aligning perfectly with the team’s description of their condition.
The images showed the three dogs chained to makeshift shelters in a neglected environment. Their severe malnourishment and open wounds were evident, highlighting the dire conditions they endured.
The animal shelter explained that it was clear that the three dogs were not cared for and were abandoned for quite a while.
Describing the heartbreaking situation the dogs were in, PSPCA wrote, “It was evident that no one had been properly caring for the dogs for some time. All three were suffering from fly strike. Their bowls were empty, and even the bowls themselves had been chewed on in search of any last morsel of food or water.”
While all dog were in severe bad health condition, the shelter revealed that Bam was the most severely affected of the three, scoring a mere 1/9 on the Purina Body Condition scale, “the lowest possible score for a living dog.”
In addition to looking thin and malnourished, the dog reportedly had “wounds on his ears and a very large, painful open sore on his hind end. He had fractured teeth and was severely anemic.”
Beau, though in a less critical state, was also emaciated and suffering from multiple wounds. Brenda, while not as severely affected, still required medical attention.
The PSPCA revealed that they immediately transported the three dogs to their shelter hospital, where they received urgent medical care.
Veterinarians initiated treatment for their wounds, administered medications to combat infection, and implemented refeeding plans to gradually restore their weight.
“He and Beau were rushed to our shelter hospital to receive the lifesaving care they desperately needed. They were both started on medications to treat their wounds and refeeding plans to slowly help them gain weight.
Of course we didn’t leave Brenda behind, and she too is receiving medical treatment and care, but is less critical,” they shared.
The organization is hopeful that all three dogs will make a full recovery, nothing that Brenda who is less critical, may soon be available for adoption.
“With each day that passes, all three dogs are becoming stronger and learning to open their hearts up to people. They may have been forgotten in the past, but with us, they never will be,” the post reads.
The post has garnered significant attention online. Many users praised the rescue team for their swift action and compassionate care. Others expressed outrage at the individual responsible for abandoning the dogs, calling for their arrest and prosecution.
“So heartbreaking, thank you for rescuing them and for all you do,” one user shared. “These people need to be found and persecuted. Hope the dogs will be saved and okay,” another added.
